About Monique
-
Monique (she/hers) is an actor, writer, director, and trauma-informed yoga instructor. Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, she serendipitously found her way into a STUDIO class in 2019 and her life and artistry has never been the same. That same year, she continued her training in The ACADEMY, undergoing a grueling and transformative process that birthed a truer and freer version of herself - and a badass actor. Having healed from the childhood wounds that came with being a theatre kid before "diversity & inclusion" was trending, Monique is passionate about creating and facilitating supportive spaces for BIPOC artists to explore the fullness of their humanity and beyond. In 2020, Monique was invited to train at The Identity School of Acting founded by Femi Oguns MBE in London. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and is co-founder of The Front Porch Oracles, a performance collective that creates original work centered on the themes of healing, spirituality and collective liberation. Monique has worked with Lookingglass Theatre, Shattered Globe Theatre and The Breath Project at Rivendell Theatre. Monique's directorial work has been featured in Trans Stellar Film Festival, Hot Wheelz Festival, Chicago Onscreen: Local Film Showcase, Stellium Literary Magazine and Woman Made Gallery’s “Water Becomes Blood” exhibit.
